Pixel phones from Google are now getting updated with August 2020 update. Based on the stable Android 10 version, there are new security firmware files now available for compatible Pixel phones that are integrated with this month’s security updates and other changes. Staying true to the monthly commitment of security improvements, August 2020 builds are now out and can be installed directly on supported Pixel phones with this guide.
With Android 11 nearing stable launch, Google has not diverted its focus from maintaining the currently stable Android 10 iteration. The latest August 2020 update should come with bug-fixes alongside the security changes — as we have experienced in the past. Just as last month’s release, this specific update is available for Google Pixel 2, 2 XL, 3, 3 XL, 3a, 3a XL, 4 and 4 XL. Google Pixel Security Bulletin – August 2020 Update
Google hasn’t listed any functional notes for the August 2020 update, just as we saw with the older July build. This might be due to the fact that Google is working on releasing pending changes with Android 11. Regardless, the updated firmware files will bring in changes nonetheless which should be applied immediately.
Prior to making these images available for manual download, Google starts pushing them directly through their update servers to compatible devices. We did see Check for Update functionality, which is built-in to the Android system, being fixed in the previous build so hopefully, it wont be causing any problems this time around. To check for an available update, go to Settings > System > System update > Check for update.
August seems to be the second consecutive month where Google hasn’t announced functional changes within the security updates. Otherwise, we usually get a long list of changes that address various functions and features.
Despite no official change-log, as we mentioned, there still might be some additions that will prove crucial for users hence updating to the latest firmware is recommended.
