Looking to return to old full screen gestures on your OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T? Here is the perfect guide explaining how to do it, all while running OxygenOS 10. Stable Android 10 upgrade for OnePlus 5 series phones arrived just recently. It brought with itself loads of new features and changes. However, following Google guidelines, the update also integrated new Android 10 navigation gestures. These gestures, although new, are different to what owners have become familiar with while running OxygenOS Android Pie. Fortunately though, the older navigation system can be restored back with this tutorial — no root or system modification required.
After upgrading to OxygenOS 10 on OnePlus 5 series, many users would have noticed that there is no option to toggle full screen gestures — as found on OxygenOS based on Android Pie. The reason for this change is the fact that Android 10 comes with its own Google-designed gesture based navigation system that utilizes a small bar at the bottom to register gestures. Now, in order to return to full screen solution of old, there is a clever trick that can be used.
Restore Old Full Screen Gestures on OnePlus 5 / 5T running OxygenOS 10
One interested developer curiously found out that OnePlus didn’t actually remove the old gestures but rather they skipped on including a toggle to enable them in the system UI. Moreover, implementing this solution doesn’t require root and works very well to restore older gesture navigation to OnePlus 5 / OnePlus 5T.
The process for restoring old full screen gestures on OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T revolves around modifying a system value. This value is stored in the system table of the phone and tells the device as to which navigation system should be used.
Once implemented, the process can be easily reversed to go back to original settings. This would not effect updates or the “official” status of your phone’s software.
Step 1 – Download SetEdit app from the Play Store. We will use this to modify the database values, no need to root.
Step 2 – Open up the app and go to System Table.
Step 3 – In System Table, you need to find op_gesture_button_side_enabled.
Step 4 – Click on the value, choose option Edit Value from the pop-up.
Step 5 – By default it would be 1, change it and set it to 0 (Zero).
Step 5 – In order to return to new gestures, repeat the process but set the value to 1.
If you have forgotten how the full-screen gestures work, here is a complete run dow:
- Back: Swipe up from the bottom left/right side
- Home: Swipe up from the bottom center
- Recent apps: Swipe up from the bottom center but hold at the end
Once you edit the value, your phone will return to old full screen gestures that you got used to on older OxygenOS versions. As mentioned in the procedure, if you find the new ones better, you can easily switch back to them.
