Google Pixel 4 / Pixel 4 XL Announced: Release Date, Tech Specs & Availability

Google has officially announced its latest Pixel 4 phone series. Leaked and rumored so much, loads of details were already known. Nonetheless, here is a rundown of what’s ‘officially’ new and what has changed from older Pixel 3. First and foremost, the design has been revised. Where Pixel 3 followed the same rear face as Pixel 2, Pixel 4 brings its own unique design characteristics. There is now a large square camera bump on the back. This bump signifies that Pixel 4 is the first Pixel phone to come with rear dual cameras. Apart from design, internals have been updated as well and now, both Pixel 4 phones come with a fast 90Hz front display.

Google is focused largely on technology that fades away and makes day to day tasks easier. Following this strategy, many new Pixel 4 features are geared towards providing users new ways to interact with the device and also, to make the phone fit better within everyone’s daily routine. New Motion Sense functionality has been introduced that allows for convenient and accurate Air Gestures via a Soli Radar.

Google Pixel 4 / Pixel 4 XL: New Features and Technical Specifications

This time round, differences between Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL have been further reduced, to the point that customers only get a larger display and larger battery on XL variant. Both new phones come with Snapdragon 855 processor that is further equipped with Pixel’s Neural Core and Titan M chip for security. Also, notice the absence of a fingerprint scanner. Google is now shifting primarily to face unlock and ditching finger biometrics.

Camera is one aspect that Pixel phones have been excelling in over the last few years. Pixel 4 brings with itself largely the same functionality as before and then adds to it. Now, users can use astro-photography to take shots with 15 seconds of exposure. There is now Live HDR+ in viewfinder and better Portrait mode. Also introduced is 8x Zoom.
