Samsung is working to bring the latest Android 9 Pie update to the Galaxy S7. Yes, this is indeed happening and this time, there is solid evidence to support that. Galaxy S7 Android Pie update will be rolling out as soon as within a month or so, if all goes as per Samsung trends.
We just recently covered a custom ROM that allowed Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge users to enjoy Android 9 Pie with One UI on their phones. But this news will make lots and lots of users happy. Samsung is still working on the Pie update and not much is announced by their end. Probably because the phone has reached its end-of-life and no one is expecting any further major Android updates to this phone. This sure looks like Samsung pulling a OnePlus here with the Galaxy S7.
We are sure of this update happening soon because the WiFi Alliance website has posted that they have certified a Samsung Galaxy S7 with Android 9.0 Pie running on it. This means, it usually takes about a month for the first beta release of this new software update by Samsung. All variants of the Galaxy S7 were certified – the unlocked variants (SM-G930F/FD), US carrier variants (SM-G930A/P/T/V) and even the Canadian one (SM-G930W).
One UI Update?
One thing we should note here is that there is no confirmation if Samsung will be bringing the One UI to either of the Samsung Galaxy S7 phones. There is a good chance they have kept One UI for the newer devices i.e. Galaxy S8, Galaxy S9 etc. and will be just updating the base Android version for the Galaxy S7.
We know Samsung has done this in the past, so that would be a no surprise. But a new Android version update is a major update, so we expect Pie on one of our favorite phones nonetheless.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Android 9 Pie Update?
The WiFi Alliance has no updates yet for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. We are not sure why, but we are sure the Android Pie update will be coming out for both the models. The very similar Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is already running official Android Pie with One UI. SO having similar hardware specs, we are sure the update for the S7 Edge will be just around the corner.
