Available for download are new March 2019 security update firmwares for Google’s Pixel lineup of devices. This month’s builds bring in a whole host of new changes and improvements. As Google is committed on releasing new security changes each month for Android source code as a whole, to have them running on their own smartphones, the brand also releases new firmware packages. As these updates deal with security and reliability, it is always recommended to install them on your device as soon as possible. However, for devices that are stuck on OTA update showing “Latest Updates have already been installed”, this is just the guide to download them manually. Ahead listed are builds for March 2019 Android Pie firmware for original Pixel, Pixel 2, Pixel 3 and Pixel C devices.
Usually, enthusiasts have mods like custom ROMs, TWRP custom recovery or root running to get the best out of their smartphone. Unfortunately, these mods render the official OTA update system useless. To circumvent this, there are full factory images available that can be flashed on devices regardless if they are modified. Further, this time round, Google has patched in numerous improvements for Pixel 3 devices ranging from better performance to improved camera. To find out more, we have attached a complete change-log ahead along with download links to March 2019 factory images.
Google Pixel Security Bulletin – March 2019
List of devices compatible with new March 2019 security patch are: Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 2, Pixel XL, Pixel and Pixel C.
Prior to making these images available for manual download, Google starts pushing them directly through their update servers to compatible devices. We did see Check for Update functionality, which is built-in to the Android system, being fixed in the previous build so hopefully, it wont be causing any problems this time around. To check for an available update, go to Settings > System > System update > Check for update.
Packed within these new builds are improvements listed below.
- Improves Startup and responsiveness of Camera app
- Improves recovery in the instance of OTA update failure
- Improves storage performance on Pixel 3 devices
- Improves bluetooth reliability on Pixel 3 devices
- Improves playback of encrypted media on some video apps (Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL)
