If you are interested on how to remove or hide notch on HMD Global’s new Nokia 8.1 without root, this tutorial is just for you! Following the recent standard of high screen to body ratios, Nokia has also started to reduce bezel sizes on its smartphones. Due to this aggressive lessening of side bezels, manufacturers are forced to implement a notch which then allows them to house essential sensors such as speakers and front facing camera. The opinion on the need of having such a thing on the front display is divided. For users who are annoyed by it, we have a simple guide which lets them easily hide notch without even rooting or modifying the OS of their Nokia 8.1.
Multiple brands such as Huawei, Oppo and others who ship a notch on their Android phones also provide a built-in software setting for hiding it. Unfortunately, due to Nokia 8.1 being maintained directly by Google through Android One, there is no such customization option. However, gladly enough, there is still a viable method which utilizes a simple app from Play Store that can be applied to yield the same result. Using Nacho Notch, users will be able to implement a solid black border up-top hence allowing the notch to be removed on Nokia 8.1.
Hide Notch on Nokia 8.1
Due to absence of built-in setting to hide notch on Nokia 8.1, you can simply use the Nacho Notch app to accomplish the same result. This app continuously runs in the background and puts in a border around the top edge — the height is varied according to the Notch which in most cases is exactly equal to the notification border.
We have put together a guide with screenshots to help you install and set up the app properly. We have tried and tested the Nacho Notch app on our Nokia 8.1 and it works quite great.
Follow the easy instructions below to get rid of and hide notch on Nokia 8.1 phone:
Step 1 – Download Nacho Notch app from the Play Store.
Step 2 – The app would be running in the background when it would be enabled so grant it proper permissions.
Step 3 – Now, to use the Hide Notch feature, just pull the Notifcation panel down twice to edit it and tap on Edit button on top. On some smartphones, it would have a gear icon or something similar to represent editing options.
Step 4 – From the available toggles, drag the Hide Notch toggle to the active toggles panel.
Step 5 – Now, just tap on the toggle to remove Notch.
Step 6 – Some users might notice that the black borders implemented by the app are not round. To enable round bezels, just find the Nacho Notch app shortcut in your app drawer and tap on it. From the list of two options, slide the Enable Rounded Corners slider.
That’s all there is to it! You can now easily hide notch on your Nokia 8.1 smartphone. If you want to revert back, just disable the toggle from the notification pull down.
