Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL users can implement the steps listed ahead to update their smartphones to new January 2019 firmware. Each month, Google releases new security definitions for overall Android. To integrate these changes to end devices, the brand also comes up with new software builds that are then pushed via the built-in OTA (Over-the-air) update system to the smartphones. More often than not, Google uses this opportunity to go ahead and tie up other changes or improvements as well within the update. Similarly, with January 2019, Pixel 3 devices should have better audio during video recording thanks to latest software tweaks. Continue ahead for the procedure on how to manually install new firmware on Pixel 3 / Pixel 3 XL.
There is a phased roll-out of new updates across all Google devices which means, some regions get the update quicker than others. If your device hasn’t received January 2019 update yet, you can manually install it. Further, if you have currently modified or rooted your Pixel 3, manual installation is the only route to get new firmware as any system modification breaks official OTA functionality. As for the procedure itself, it basically makes use of ADB and Fastboot utilities to implement latest software on your device. It requires a computer to be connected to the smartphone. Before you actually start executing our guide, do make sure to backup all your data.
