Dropped with this iteration are Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones. After enjoying over 2 years of updates, Google has finally decided to no longer support older Nexus series devices. Also, with that, the Nexus name will now become a legacy. Devices which are eligible to run January 2019 Android Pie builds officially include all Pixel devices including Pixel C. As we discussed before, on top of the improved security, Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones are getting improvements in audio quality during video recording. Downloading the update package manually is quite helpful if you have a custom ROM, root or TWRP installed or your device hasn’t yet gotten the firmware through OTA.

List of devices compatible with new January 2019 security patch are: Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 2, Pixel XL, Pixel and Pixel C.

Prior to making these images available for manual download, Google starts pushing them directly through their update servers to compatible devices. We did see Check for Update functionality, which is built-in to the Android system, being fixed in the previous build so hopefully, it wont be causing any problems this time around. To check for an available update, go to Settings > System > System update > Check for update.
