Qualcomm has, as planned, launched its new 5G capable chipset — Snapdragon 855. We have been hearing about 5G from a year, and finally, after a huge wait, it is here. As 5G starts penetrating the technology market, 4G will be gradually fade out — however, that is a long way from here. Qualcomm announced new Snapdragon 855 processor at its third annual Tech Summit in Maui. However, no more details have been provided by the company about the chip yet. It is to be expected that this first 5G Chipset will be faster and better than the last 845 chip. Qualcomm is planning to provide two versions of its 855, one with and one without 5G. Qualcomm has heavily invested in 5G. In practical sense 855 is the world’s first 5G-ready chipset. This chipset will be the first one to come equipped in 5G phones.
5G is the next proposed telecommunication standard beyond the current 4G/IMT-Advanced tech. In the near future, 5G will impact every Industry in the best possible way. World’s biggest mobile operators are striving to launch 5G technology as soon as possible. While mobile manufacturing companies are also making 5G handsets and everyone is waiting to buy the first 5G Phone as soon as possible. According to Qualcomm, there are now 20 operators and 18 OEMs committed to Qualcomm’s vision of 5G. 5G capabilities will open up more business opportunities as well.
Further, OnePlus also announced that it is going to manufacture and sell the first smartphone to feature the all new chipset Snapdragon 855 from Qualcomm . The revelation was made on stage at the chipmaker’s annual event, held at that time in Maui, Hawaii. The company also explained that this same device will also be its first mobile phone with 5G connectivity. The most interesting of all is that this phone with Snapdragon 855 and 5G connectivity will not be OnePlus 7, but rather a model that should open a new line or maybe a special edition. This would not be the first time the brand has diverted a bit from its main family of smartphones. In 2015, OnePlus X was released , a smaller and cheaper option compared to the top of that generation.
OnePlus executives declined to comment further on the features of this device but said that it will be launched first in the UK in partnership with UK operator EE. The idea is to put the 5G mobile phone on the market even before the carriers’ mobile networks are ready, to get ahead of competitors. Samsung and Motorola are following the same plan.
