If you are annoyed by HiSearch on your Mate 20 smartphone, here is how to disable it permanently. Huawei’s new Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro run the brand’s proprietary EMUI skin — EMUI 9 based on Android Pie. Despite the amazing extra functionality this skin adds, there are few features which not all users love. And unfortunately, one of those things is HiSearch. This is basically a search assistant integrated directly to the home screen. If you are jumping from stock Android or any other skin, you will find yourself unintentionally bringing up HiSearch quite often. Fortunately, there is a workaround which has been detailed ahead.
The only downside with this guide is, if you ever want to get HiSearch back, you would need to factory reset your device. However, this procedure doesn’t require root and neither does it break the warranty. All we will do is, uninstall the HiSearch service so it doesn’t interfere. To do so, you would need a computer with proper USB drivers installed and preferably the type-C cable that shipped with the phone — others will work as well.
Disable HiSearch on Huawei Mate 20 Smartphones
As explained previously, we will make use of Android Debug Bridge (ADB) to delete the app responsible for HiSearch from the Huawei Mate 20 series. Our guide might or might not work with other Huawei phones that have HiSearch enabled.
Step 1 – First, make sure proper USB drivers have been installed on your computer for Mate 20. You can read here to install Mate 20 drivers, if you haven’t already.
Step 2 – Now, on your phone, do enable USB debugging. Don’t know how? Read: How to Enable USB Debugging on Android.
Step 3 – Download ADB / Fastboot – Android SDK Platform Tools separate package and install on your computer. Download from the following links depending on your OS and extract it anywhere in your computer.
- Windows: Download platform-tools-windows-latest.zip
- MacOS: Download platform-tools-darwin-latest.zip
- Linux: Download platform-tools-linux-latest.zip
Step 4 – Where you extracted the tools, open a command prompt / shell window in that exact folder and write:
Step 5 – Now, issue the following command:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.search
Step 6 – Once all is done, there should be a Success notifcation at the prompt.
Step 7 – Restart your device!
That’s all to it! You should now have HiSearch disabled on your Mate 20 / Mate 20 Pro smartphone. As we added earlier, to revert back, you would need to factory reset your device.
