Here is how new Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i customers can completely hide Notch on their smartphones. In an effort to minimize bezels, manufacturers have started to stretch mobile displays to the very edge. This works perfectly for all but one side of the front display which is the top. As front sensors such as camera, proximity, call-speaker and more can’t be placed anywhere else, to accommodate them there is a new notch concept. For few customers this concept works and for others, it does not. Fortunately, despite having a notch in Nova 3 and 3i’s design, Huawei lets users to choose what they would like to do, whether they want to hide it and replicate normal displays or keep the notch. Read ahead to find instructions on how you can hide notch without using third-party software or apps.
The technical justification of Notch is one thing whereas the other is how it makes a phone look expensive and premium. As notch hasn’t really been brought down to entry level phones, presence of it represents an expensive price for average customers. From our usage — read our full review on Huawei Nova 3 — we don’t mind the notch as the long display resolution puts it beyond our main focus but it is always good to know that you can hide it. Learning from P20 series, Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i both have system settings that let users remove notch and implement a solid black border on top, imitating a bezel.
How to Remove / Hide Notch On Huawei Nova 3 / 3i
Our procedure relies on EMUI 8.2, stock firmware on Nova and Nova 3i, which means users would not be required to install any third-party apps to remove notch.
Step 1 – Go to Settings app. You can do this by accessing the shortcut on your home screen or by using the gear button located on the notification pull down.
Step 3 – Once in the Settings options, go to the Display section.
Step 4 – From this section, you need to tap on Notch.
Step 5 – From the resulting options, you can choose Default – which enables the notch – but with Hide Notch option your phone will add a black bar to fill out the empty space on the display hence creating a fake bezel which is more pleasing to see.
That’s all there is to it! You should now have a Notch that is hidden and a phone which looks more pleasant and traditional. If you have any questions, reach us through the comments.
