Samsung’s greatest smartphone yet, Galaxy Note 9 is now available for purchase and we will be sharing the full unboxing experience along with our initial thoughts through this article. The Note lineup was initially an idea drafted by Samsung heads to jam pack top of the line hardware into a smartphone. Key things like the large screen and dedicated S-Pen were added to the mix to provide users with extra usability and precision. 7 years after the first Galaxy Note, Samsung is still continuously pushing the boundaries of what a smartphone can do. The new Note 9 not only comes with top of the line hardware but it fits it all in a stunning chassis. Starting off the Samsung Note experience, let’s take a detailed look at what users get in the new Galaxy Note 9 box!
This year round, Samsung has truly revived the Note smartphone for power users. Starting from the processor, new Note 9 features Snapdragon 845 for US markets and Exynos 9810 for others. Both of these offer some mind blowing performance and are quite efficient at the same time. Also new in Galaxy Note 9 is the large 4,000mAh battery. For reference, most 2018 flagships top out at 3,000 or 3,500mAh at max but Samsung did one better and packed in loads of capacity on the Note 9. For further discussion, first impression pictures and a complete video, continue right ahead.
We always appreciate when brands as large as Samsung spend time around the little details. Right of the bat, new Galaxy Note 9 has one of the most unique box branding we have seen. Our unit arrived in Ocean Blue color scheme — one which Samsung is using most in its commercials. What’s unique with the new Ocean Blue variant is that it has a bright yellow colored S-Pen. To signify this, Samsung has etched the S-Pen design in its correct color to the actual shipped device on top of the box. This gives the whole package a very minimalist look.
Further, Note 9’s packaging is quite straight forward. As you open the main flap, you would be greeted by a cardboard envelope which packs quick start guide and also, the SIM removal tool. Beneath this is the actual phone itself. We will trace back to the device soon but after removing Galaxy Note 9 from the box, you are welcomed by further few sections which house numerous accessories. Samsung, for one, has packed in a good number of stock accessories. You get high-end AKG headphones, USB Type-C cable, USB Connector for data transferring, USB Type-C to microUSB converter, extra earbuds, extra S-Pen tips and lastly, S-Pen tip removal tool.

From booting the phone up for the first time, it becomes strikingly evident how quick Note 9 actually is. Navigating through the setup wizard is quite snappy all thanks to Exynos 9810 / Snapdragon 845 chipset — ours is an Exynos variant. Further, Samsung is pioneering 128GB storage as the new industry standard with Note 9. On top of the 128GB storage variant, users can also opt for a 512GB version that comes with 8GB RAM which is otherwise 6GB. This goes to show, Samsung is truly focusing on the users who need the best of everything in their smartphone.
Also, Galaxy Note 9 is the first iteration in quite some time that has brought some fundamental changes to the S-Pen. In all previous Note smartphones, users were only able to use the S-Pen in close proximity to the screen however, that is changing with Galaxy Note 9. Samsung has managed to make the new S-Pen Bluetooth capable which gives it that extra layer of usability. For use cases, now users can utilize the S-Pen to act as a presentation remote, remote shutter and even more. Samsung will soon be opening up its new S-Pen SDK to developers so they can experiment and come up with clever ways to use this new S-Pen functionality.
Lastly, another new addition that is truly amazing is the new extended 4,000mAh battery. Comparing to the older Galaxy Note 8, that is a whopping 700mAh capacity increase. Further, thanks to latest software improvements and efficient processors, we should be noticing a considerable difference in overall battery life of Galaxy Note 9 compared it to its predecessor.
We are quite eager to use the new flagship for further testing but as far as our first look goes, this device has the potential of becoming the “go-to” device for all power users and smartphone enthusiasts.
