Hide WhatsApp Media from Gallery / Photos App using Official Method

Here is a complete guide on how users can hide WhatsApp media — photos and videos — from showing up on the device’s stock Gallery / Photos app. Yes, we know how annoying it is to see all WhatsApp media pop up on a smartphone’s gallery app, jumbling up with photos taken from the device. With this guide you will be able to hide your WhatsApp media from your Android phone’s gallery — all without deleting anything. WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging applications available right now. On top of instant messages, it is also a great service to directly share photos, videos and even documents.

Different media (images, videos) that you receive through WhatsApp unfortunately, show up directly on your smartphone’s gallery which is annoying and frustrating at the least. However, there is a workaround that you can use to simply hide all WhatsApp media from your device’s stock Gallery / Photos app.

Hide WhatsApp Media

Despite WhatsApp creating separate folders to maintain all photos and videos, this doesn’t mean this media is unavailable for your Gallery app to access. As WhatsApp relies on downloading to view images, it is pretty cumbersome. If you look at the Facebook for instance, user can see the images and videos without actually downloading and if something is important, there is an option to manually download.

You can also turn off the automatic download from the settings of your phone but it is not quite convenient as you wont be able to download any images or videos. Follow the method below to hide media files from your phone’s gallery.

Step 1 – To hide the WhatsApp media, you have to download the latest version of WhatsApp Beta and to do that install WhatsApp Beta app from Play Store or download the APK file directly: WhatsApp-Beta-218219.apk.

Step 2 – When you have downloaded the latest Beta version. Launch the app and tap on the Three dot menu which can be found on the top right corner.

Step 3 – Now go to settings and select Chat option. There you will see a newly added option under to Show Media in Gallery which is available under Media visibility page.

Step 4 – This option is turned on by default. All you have to do is to change the default to “No“.

Once you have completed all the steps, you will no longer see the WhatsApp media files in your gallery. Drop a comment if are still having problems.
