With this tutorial you can find out how to implement Android P Intelligent Rotation Feature on any Android device. Android P immediately got a lot of attention when it was announced last month. It is not currently available for the general public rather it has only been announced for developers and enthusiasts who want to help in testing. As with any major OS release, Android P will take some time to arrive on your Android device. Out of the many great features Android P will bring, one of them — Intelligent Rotation, as we call it — you can get running on your current device.

Generally, phones have only two rotation options — auto-rotate enabled or disabled. Thanks to Intelligent Auto Rotate on Android P, the device will be able to detect whether you are trying to rotate the screen and will show a button, which, once pressed, would rotate the screen in the available option. Basically, Intelligent Rotation adds a new third orientation state to your Android device.

You will still be locked in portrait mode after disabling the auto-rotation however, if you rotate your device in a landscape position, a new button will pop up in the navigation bar. If you enable this button, your device will shift its viewing mode. For when you have auto-rotation turned on, you wont be able to see this button as the phone will rotate seamlessly.

Install Android P Intelligent Rotation Feature On Any Android device

To make Android P Intelligent Rotation Feature work, you need an Android device that sports an accelerometer — almost all smartphones come with this!

Step 1 – Download Dynamic Rotation Control app APK file from the link below

File: Dynamic-Rotation-Control-1.3.1.apk
Size: 1.87MB

Step 2 – Locate the APK you just downloaded and open it to install it.

Step 3 – If you are installing an APK directly for the very first time, you would be notified to enable “Unknown Source” setting. If not sure about this, we have written a tutorial. See link below on where to find this setting.

Step 4 – After enabling, the app should install.

Step 2 – Launch the app and tap in ‘Start’ button located at the bottom right

Step 3 – Grant all the permissions when asked.
