This guide will show you how to download and install MIUI 9 ROM on compatible Xiaomi devices. The procedure of installing the new MIUI 9 ROM is quite easy. Our article includes two main methods, one relies on Mi Flash Tool and other on fastboot utility. You can utilize the one which you find the most easiest and simple. With MIUI 9, major changes rely on the user interface. They have changed the skin to fit a more stock UI which is closer to Google’s own Android OS. Further, the ROM still carries the MIUI signature features such as their stock apps. You can use the MIUI 9 Beta Global ROM on your device by installing it through this guide.
Previously, we covered MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM download links but in this post, we will be covering the detailed installation procedure as well. This procedure will apply to all supported devices and will work even if you have a custom ROM running right now — method 2 (Fastboot Method) would only apply in that case. You can also check for the update through your phone but for immediate installation, follow our procedure below.

Now that you have downloaded the MIUI 9 ROM, next you have to install it on your phone. As mentioned before, there are two methods available to do that. First one is by the recovery mode or the phone’s Updater app. Second method is to flash the Fastboot ROM from the Mi Fastboot Mode.

1 – Install MIUI 9 ROM with Updater App / Recovery Mode
This method relies on the recovery of your phone. This method should work with your stock Xiaomi recovery or with a custom one like TWRP custom recovery. A computer or a connected phone is now required for this process.
Follow these easy steps to install MIUI 9 on your Xiaomi phone:
Step 1 – Download “Recovery ROM” for your Xiaomi device from the list given above.
Step 2 – Transfer the file to the internal storage on your device. The file should be in the root (main directory) of internal storage, not inside any folder as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 3 – Boot into Mi Recovery (Recovery Mode). This is the stock recovery your phone ships with. Be sure to have this installed rather than a custom one like TWRP. You can boot into recovery mode by opening up the Updater app (under Tools folder) and tap on the three dots at the top right corner. Tap on Choose update package.
Step 4 – From the file explorer view, choose the Recovery ROM file you transferred to your device in Step 2. Select the file as shown in the screenshot below and tap the OK button.
Step 5 – The Updater app will now check your ROM file for any errors and set it up for installation.
Step 6 – Once completed, you will be prompted to reboot the phone and install the update. Tap on the Reboot and update button to proceed.
Step 7 – Your phone will reboot now and installation will begin.
Step 8 – Your phone may reboot again during installation. So do not worry if that happens.
Step 9 – Once completed, your phone will start normally like it used to before installing the update.
Step 10 – To check and confirm what MIUI version has been installed on your phone, go to Settings > About phone.
