How to Change TWRP Recovery Language to English

This tutorial will explain how to change the language on TWRP recovery from Chinese or other language to English. Many times when you own an Android device by a Chinese manufacturer, it is possible that most of the active development for that phone is done by developers in China. As TeamWin has contributors for the TWRP custom recovery from all over the world, it is very much possible for devs to keep the default language on the recovery as Chinese.

People who do not know Chinese are stuck with a custom recovery that they cannot use because of the language after installation. In this guide we will look into how to easily change language in TWRP recovery if you are stuck in a similar situation. TWRP comes in a lot of languages that you can switch to. But for people who have a phone from a Chinese region will have to deal with many apps, tools and utilities available only in Chinese language by default.

TWRP Language - Chinese Recovery

We have covered TWRP recovery installation guides for all the popular phones out there. We have been a fan of TeamWin for a long time. Previously, we loved CWM (ClockworkMod) recovery but due to limited support and not much development over the years, we had to switch to another one. TWRP is the most popular custom recovery for Android phones and tablets now. Mainly due to the huge support and a long list of contributors.

TWRP recovery allows you to make full system backups, flash modified system packages, install update ZIP files, reset your phone and system/cache partitions etc. All these features have been built over the standard stock recovery that you get with the phone. You can also use a PC to backup/restore phones with TWRP.

How to Change TWRP Language to English

You can use TWRP custom recovery in any language you want. It is available in Chinese, Russian, Ukranian, Italian, French, Dutch etc. languages. But for those who want it in English, here is how you can do that:

Change TWRP Language

Step 1 – Make sure you have an Android phone with TWRP installed on it.

Step 2 – Now, boot into the Recovery Mode of your Android phone or tablet. How? Read this: How to Enter Recovery Mode on Any Android Phone. Typically, you can enter recovery mode by turning OFF your phone. Then hold and press the following buttons: Volume Down + Power (or at times, you have to try this combination: Volume Up + Power).

Step 3 – Once you are inside TWRP, recover, you will see about 6-8 big buttons on your screen (assuming you have the touch version installed).

Step 4 – Tap on the 6th button (or third button in the second column). Another screen will open!

Step 5 – Now from the top menu, tap on the last option available.

Step 6 – You will now be shown the Languages menu. Now you should be able to see a list of supported languages.

Step 7 – Select English from the list and tap the big button at the bottom right.

This is it. You have now successfully changed TWRP language from Chinese to English on your Android device.
