The new Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime has been launched in multiple markets, find out how you can connect it to your computer correctly. The phone is making its mark in the budget category with useful software and excellent hardware. Galaxy J7 Prime runs Marshmallow out of the box, Android Nougat upgrade coming out soon. However, as it is base on Android, there is a certain procedure to connect it to your PC correctly. Due to security reasons, you can’t just directly plug and play. The process is easy but definitely requires your attention. We have detailed the whole procedure through which you can connect your Galaxy J7 Prime to your computer — both Windows and Mac.
Previous iterations of Android have removed the Mass Storage capability which made the phone act as an USB. Instead of that, we have MTP (Media Transfer Protocol). These standard MTP drivers come bundled with the phone and no need for separate installation. ADB drivers and Fastboot drivers will need to be downloaded from the Android SDK. We have an entire section full of Android USB Drivers, but we have that covered as well for you below on how to download and install the drivers.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime USB Drivers for Windows
Like we said, the USB drivers for Galaxy J7 Prime are bundled in the device itself. For transferring media content, photos and other files from your phone, you need to have a micro USB cable (preferably the one you got with the phone) for the phone.
- Connect your Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime with the computer using that USB cable.
- Now wait for the computer to recognize the device.
- Several drivers including the modem, MTP service etc. will be installed automatically.
By default, your phone is set to “Charging only” when you connect it to the computer with your USB cable. To be able to transfer files between your PC and phone, do the following steps to enable the storage option:
Step 1 – After connecting your phone and installing drivers, pull down your notification area.
Step 2 – Tap the notification pop-up with the USB logo.

Step 3 – Now select “Allow” in order to let your computer access your phone properly.

Once finished, you will see a new media device in My Computer. You can now transfer photos, music, videos or any other files from and to your Galaxy J7 Prime USB memory.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime USB Drivers for Mac
Connecting your Galaxy J7 Prime USB memory on a Mac is also easy. If you have been a Nexus device user on a Mac previously, then this Galaxy J7 Prime should be no different for you. Make sure you have a Galaxy J7 Prime and a micro-USB data cable (preferably, the one that came with the phone). Follow these quick steps:
- Download Android File Transfer and install it on Mac OS X.
- Connect your Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime with the USB cable.
- Wait for the phone to get connected and drivers to be installed.
- Android File Transfer window will automatically open up with your internal phone memory directories.
If Android File Transfer fails to start, that is because you might have to enable the “Mass storage” option in your phone:
Step 1 – After connecting your phone and installing drivers, pull down your notification area.
Step 2 – Tap the “USB charging this device” option.
