How to Enter Download Mode on Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Find out how you can access download mode on Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge through our detailed article given right below. With all Samsung Galaxy smartphones, there is this mode regarded as Download mode and sometimes ODIN mode as well. This section of the phone will allow you to flash firmwares and read/write system partitions through a computer. Otherwise unavailable through the normal Android OS, download mode serves as a great way to immediately install new updates as soon as they arrive. It doesn’t, however, end there. You can also flash custom ROMs, custom recoveries and other third-party packages through ODIN while your phone is Download Mode. We have explained the download mode itself as well as given few details of ODIN and its part in this process. Read further to find out how you can access download mode on Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Download Mode comes in handy when you want to connect your phone with ODIN, root your device or install custom recovery or any other updates or system tweaks. Getting your device into Download Mode is no big deal, but we still get questions from many readers on how to do it. In case your phone is not detected by your computer at all, please make sure you have all the Galaxy S7 Edge USB drivers installed.

What is Download Mode / ODIN Mode?

You can pretty much access the Download Mode on any Samsung Galaxy smartphone as long as it is not a Carrier specific phone. Samsung likes to support the developer side of you or maybe the side which wants to get updates blazing fast, in both cases we take it as an advantage. Some manufacturers tend to cordon off this area for no valid reason. Yes, security might be compromised but measures are in place to counter act that.

Let’s take a look at some of the basic functioning of this mode. First you have to know that Download Mode is nothing on it’s own, you need a partner program installed on a PC that can correctly recognize this mode. The most popular solution is ODIN. ODIN runs on your PC and let’s you utilize all of the different functions. Also, once you are connected with ODIN and in Download Mode on your phone, you need to be very careful. Through this mode all partitions of the phone are open which means even the slightest errors can cause a malfunction. Be sure to follow a guide with full documentation, like the ones here at TeamAndroid, rather than doing it yourself.

ODIN can be used to flash general updates. That doesn’t end there. You can also downgrade your phone after a unsuccessful upgrade or for any reason that you might find the need to. This can be very helpful for people who are experiencing bugs with a newer version of the System OS.

As we mentioned earlier, it is encouraged that you use the Download Mode but, only with Samsung signed files. Official firmwares are an example. The files which are not tolerable by Samsung include root packages, ROMs and anything that isn’t overlooked by Samsung. This doesn’t mean you will not be able to enjoy all the ROMs and root but it only states that warranty will no longer cover your phone afterwards. This is the only drawback we see when one sets out to customize one’s phone. We also warn of this in each of our custom software tutorials. Android 5.1 Lollipop is expected to come out very soon for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and as soon as it comes out, we will provide you with a full guide on how you can update to it via ODIN.
