Infinix Zero 2 Review

Infinix Zero 2 is the second phone launched by Infinix Mobility in Pakistan. We have been using the phone for a few weeks now, making the phone go through heavy and light usage. Lost of games were played on the phone, installed and used tons of apps and took hundreds of pictures with the camera — how did it all go? We’ll talk all about this in our review below in detail.

The Zero 2 came to Pakistan just a couple of months later after the Hot Note was launched. It comes with great specs, a fine build quality and at an amazing price — just Rs. 18,900. One of the main highlights of this phone is that it comes with a Kevlar cover at the back, which is very strong and durable, no matter how roughly you use the phone. We’ll talk about that later. But first, let’s look at the technical features this phone offer.

Zero 2: Hardware and Display

Infinix Zero 2 comes in three different colours: black, gold and red. And features some of the best hardware specifications we have seen in budget-friendly smartphones. Weighing just 118g, it is one of the lightest phones ever and is more durable than many flagship devices out in the market. Zero 2 features the Gorilla Glass 3 on the front, and the back is made up of Kevlar. Kevlar is best known to be used for making bullet-proof jackets and that same material has been used for the back of this phone. It is very light in weight and at the same time it is up to five times stronger than steel. We haven’t done a bullet test on the phone, but would love to! For a bit more about Kevlar, you can read the following:

Developed by DUPONT USA, Kevlar® fiber is ultra flexible, highly resistant and 5 times lighter than steel. Commonly used for innovative industry, Kevlar® is highly valued for its toughness and can endure high temperature (150 to 160 degree). Kevlar® has many applications, ranging from bicycle tires and racing sails to body armor because of its high tensile strength-to-weight ratio; by this measure it is 5 times stronger than steel. Not only ultra-resistant, it also feel good in your palm.

Zero 2 features a 5.0-inch Super AMOLED display screen with great colours and picture quality, similar to how we love them on Samsung phones. This display helps you save battery by turning off the pixels around the black areas, making the screen look much more vibrant with better colours. In our opinion, a 5.0-inch display is the ideal size for a smartphone. We have been looking at huge screen sizes these days with the latest flagships, but anything around five inches is still perfect for normal use. This display is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 making your screen scratch resistant and almost unbreakable.

The front of the phone includes an ambient sensor, light sensor and the 5 megapixels camera; back side has the 13 megapixels camera and flashlight.

On the left side of the phone, you get the dual SIM tray. Right side has the power button, volume buttons and the expandable micro SD card tray. The load speaker is at the bottom of the phone, and the top has the micro USB charging slot and the 3.5 mm headphones jack.

Zero 2: Performance and Battery

Infinix Zero 2 is powered by a Mediatek MTK6592 Turbo Octacore chipset clocking at 2.0 GHz, combined with a Mali 450-MP4 graphic chipset (700MHz core speed). This ensures overall great processing speeds and a very smooth system that does not lag or have issues with Android when running graphics-intensive games. We enjoyed playing games like FIFA 15, Boom Beach, Earn to Die 2 etc. on the Infinix Zero 2 — no lag whatsoever.

2GB RAM is enough for running your Zero 2 without any memory problems and you can multitask with multiple Android apps at the same time. The DDR3 2GB RAM prevent system slowdowns without affecting internal storage or OS performance in any way.

This phone currently runs on Android 4.4 KitKat, but an Android update is coming out very soon. We believe, this performance will only get better over time when the official Android 5.1 Lollipop update is released for the phone. A beta release is already available on the Infinix forums for you to try out.

Infinix is well known for their huge battery size in the Hot Note phone that features a 4000 mAh battery and is able to run for around 3-4 days with normal usage. However, this is not the case with Infinix Zero 2. This new phone features a 2300 mAh battery which goes on for around 12 hours with decent usage. This is expected to get better with the new Lollipop update, but for now, we think this is plenty of battery timing as compared to other phones in the same price range.

Zero 2: Camera

Zero 2 features a 13 megapixels camera at the back and a 5 megapixels front camera for your selfies. You can capture stunning pictures with Zero 2’s camera which is integrated with Samsung S5K3M2 CMOS sensor. This allows the phone to take sharp and much brighter pictures with less noise. 0.5 seconds auto-focus mechanism is 20% faster and reduces chances of blurry pictures by using Alternate VCM.

One of our favorite camera features is the Smart Gesture technology that allows one to take pictures by just waving your hand. We have already seen this feature in a number of other phones, and it is now also included with the Infinix Zero 2 making it much easier to take selfies. Talking about selfies, the front camera has an 85 degrees wide angle which would let you fit in a lot more people in a single shot than ever before!

Conclusion

If you are looking for a phone in range between $150-200, then this is the one to go for. Amazing build quality, great display and a camera that takes stunning pictures — you don’t get this package at such a great deal elsewhere.

We look forward to future offerings from Infinix and hope to see more Android smartphones from them. Hint: Infinix Hot 2
