HOW TO: Root Huawei P8
We have put together a detailed step-by-step instructions guide on how to root Huawei P8. Please read the complete tutorial once before actually performing it.
Just To Remember:
- This root method can be applied to all latest firmwares currently available for the Huawei P8.
- Your Huawei P8 bootloader should be unlocked.
- You should have CWM Custom Recovery installed on your Huawei P8.
- Make a Nandroid backup of your previous phone set up before proceeding – for just in case anything goes wrong.
Complete Step-By-Step Instructions:
Step 1 – Download Android SDK from the Android Developers website and install. Also set it up with downloading platform-tools and USB drivers package in SDK. See: How to Set up ADB and Fastboot on Windows.
Step 2 – Enable USB Debugging mode on your Huawei P8.
Step 3 – Download Fastboot from the following links depending on your OS and extract it in android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory. Create directory if not already there.
NOTE: Skip Steps 1, 2, 3 if you already have them.
Step 4 – Download SuperSU v2.46 (UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip) for Huawei P8 on your PC, if you haven’t already.
Step 5 – Boot into ClockWorkMod recovery either by pressing the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously while the phone is OFF or you can type in the code below into ADB shell while your phone is on and has USB debugging activated.
adb reboot recovery
Step 6 – As mentioned in our CWM recovery guide, this iteration would not have any GUI so don’t touch any buttons once you boot into a black screen (Recovery).
Step 7 – Press the Power button again and select “choose zip from sdcard”. Make sure you are in the same folder as your SuperSU download. Type in the following command:
adb push UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip /su.zip
Step 8 – Connect to recovery via typing the following characters:
Step 9 – In the shell, enter the following code. This will flash the root package and automatically reboot the phone. Again, don’t press any buttons just wait.
That’s it! Your Huawei P8 is now rooted! Check for the SuperSU app in your apps list to verify.
To make sure you have correctly installed the above root method and it’s working, verify with Root Checker as given in the link.
