How to Enter Download Mode on Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500

Samsung Galaxy S4 users can make use of the Download Mode aka ODIN Mode for installing firmwares manually. This mode only works with a Samsung flashing tool called ODIN. Team Android has a number of official firmware updates which are installed by entering Download Mode. We will be posting some quick tutorials based on the Galaxy S4 I9500 in the coming couple of days. For now, we’ll start with how to enter download mode / ODIN mode on your Galaxy S4.

Download mode comes in handy when you want to connect your phone with ODIN, root your device or install custom recovery or any other updates or system tweaks. Getting your device into download mode is no big deal, but we still get questions from many people on how to do it. NOTE: The following steps can be used to enter Download / ODIN mode on the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 and Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE GT-I9505.

How to Enter Download Mode on Galaxy S4 I9500

Here is a quick step-by-step instruction on how to enter Download Mode on your Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 phone. If this is your first time with a Samsung Android phone, follow the following carefully:

Step 1 – Turn OFF your Galaxy S4.

Step 2 – Now press and hold the following keys on your phone together: Volume Down + Home + Power.

Step 3 – After the Samsung phone name logo, you will see a screen with a warning sign as shown below. Proceed ahead by pressing the Volume Up button.

Step 4 – Then you will be shown a screen similar to as shown in the photo below. This is the Download Mode aka ODIN Mode for flashing firmware files using the Samsung flashing tool called ODIN.

That’s it. You are now in the Download Mode. If you want to get out of it, simple hold the Volume Up and Power buttons for a few seconds (around 10 sec.) and your phone will reboot normally.

  • my phone is in 4.3
    i updated through odin but know i cant connect my device to odin..!!!
    when it is ON it can connect to odin.but when i put my phone in download mode it is not connecting .i enabled debug mode still its not conecting
    please help me….

  • To get out of download mode, (Galaxy S4) press the power button while on download mode till your screen is gone, then, before your phone vibrates to reboot, quickly hold Volume Down, Home and Power buttons all at once, till your phone vibrates and comes up with the would you like to enter download mode page, then you’ll have the option to cancel, after you cancel, your s4 must boot normally.
