How to Root HTC Butterfly with SuperSU Package on Android 4.1

We have put together a detailed step-by-step instructions guide on how to root HTC Butterfly with SuperSU. Please read every line carefully below. We suggest that you should read the tutorial once before actually performing it on your phone.

To Remember:

  • This root method tutorial is only for HTC Butterfly. Please don’t try this on any other variants of the phone.
  • Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.
  • This will void your warranty.
  • HTC Sync should be installed as it comes with the latest HTC phone drivers.
  • Bootloader should be unlocked. How? –> How to Unlock Bootloader of HTC Phones.

If you have fulfilled all the requirements above, then proceed to the actual tutorial.

Complete Step-By-Step Instructions:

Step 1 – First of all, install a custom recovery from any of the following given links. We will be using ClockworkMod Recovery in our tutorial.

Step 2 – Download SuperSU Root (su_buzyb0x.zip) for HTC Butterfly to your computer.

Step 3 – Connect your HTC Butterfly to your computer using the USB cable.

Step 4 – Now copy/paste the downloaded su_buzyb0x.zip file to your SD card. Make sure the file is in the SD card root (not in any folder).

Step 5 – Then turn OFF your phone and disconnect from the USB cable.

Step 6 – Now to get in the Recovery Mode. Switch ON the phone while pressing and holding Volume Up + Power buttons together. Alternatively, read this: How to Enter Recovery Mode on Any Android Phone.

Step 7 – Once you are in the Recovery Mode, scroll down to “flash zip from SD card” and press the Power button to select it.

Step 8 – Press the Power button again and select “choose zip from sdcard”.

Step 9 – Now using your volume keys, navigate to the su_buzyb0x.zip file that you copied to your SD card and select it using the Power button. Confirm the installation on the next screen and the installation should start now.

Step 10 – After the installation completes, go to main recovery menu and reboot the phone by selecting “reboot system now“. Your HTC Butterfly will reboot now!

That’s it. Your HTC Butterfly has now been rooted on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with SuperSU package. Check for the SuperSU app in your apps list to verify.

To make sure you have correctly installed the above root method and it’s working, verify with Root Checker as given in the link.
