How to Install Android 4.1.2 JZO54K Official OTA Update on Nexus 7 [For ROOTED]

We have put together a detailed step-by-step instructions guide on how to install Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean official software update (JZO54K) on Nexus 7. If you are used to installing custom ROMs on your Nexus 7, then this should not be any different for you.

However, for beginners, you need to root your Nexus 7 and install a custom recovery. Please read the tutorial once before you actually perform it.

Just To Remember:

  • This ROM is only for Nexus 7 and I am not sure if it will work on the other variants of the Nexus 7 or other devices.
  • Make sure you have ClockworkMod custom recovery installed on your Nexus 7. Your tablet is not rooted? Go back to page 1 for the tutorial.
  • Do not proceed if you don’t have Android 4.1.1 JRO03D installed.
  • Make a Nandroid backup of your previous tablet set up before proceeding.

Complete Step-By-Step Instructions:

Step 1 – Download Android 4.1.2 JZO54K OTA Update for Nexus 7 on your PC, if you haven’t already.

Step 2 – Connect and mount your Nexus 7 USB memory on your computer using the USB cable.

Step 3 – Now copy/paste the Android 4.1.2 zip file to your SD card. Make sure the file is in the SD card root.

Step 4 – Then turn OFF your phone.

Step 5 – Now to get in the bootloader mode. Turn ON the phone while pressing and holding the Volume Up + Power buttons till you see the fastboot menu and START on top.

Step 6 – Follow the navigation instructions on the screen. Press Volume Up button several times till you see RECOVERY and press Power button to select it.

Step 7 – In ClockworkMod recovery, scroll down to “flash zip from SD card” and press the power button to select it.

Step 8 – Press the Power button again and select “choose zip from sdcard”.

NOTE (Optional): You might have to turn OFF signature verification from the “toggle signature verification” option.

Step 9 –Now using your volume keys, navigate to Android 4.1.2 zip and select it using the Power button. Confirm the installation on the next screen and the installation procedure should start now.

Step 10 – After the installation completes, go to “+++++Go Back” and reboot the phone by selecting “reboot system now” from the Recovery Menu. The phone will boot now and it might take about 5 minutes to boot on your first time. So, please wait.

That’s it! Your Nexus 7 should have the official Android 4.1.2 JZO54K Jelly Bean software update installed on your phone! Go to Settings >About phone to verify.
