How to Root HTC Desire C and Install Clockwork Recovery
We have put together a detailed step-by-step instructions guide on how to install ClockworkMod recovery and root HTC Desire C. Please read every line carefully below. We suggest, read the tutorial once before actually performing it on your phone.
- This root method tutorial is only for HTC Desire C. Please don’t try this on any other variants of the phone.
- Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.
- This will void your warranty.
- HTC Sync should be installed before performing the tutorial.
- Bootloader should be unlocked. How? –> How to Unlock Bootloader of HTC Phones.
If you have fulfilled all the requirements above, then proceed to the actual tutorial.
Complete Step-By-Step Instructions:
Step 1 – Make sure ADB and Fastboot is configured on your PC. How? See here: How to Set Up ADB and Fastboot with Android SDK. This is important.
Step 2 – Connect HTC Desire C to your PC with a USB cable and install ADB drivers.
Step 3 – Download ClockworkMod (recovery-beta2.img) and copy/paste it in the android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory.
Step 4 – Download SuperSU Root (CWM-SuperSU-v0.94.zip) and transfer it to your phone SD Card.
Step 5 – Go to Fastboot/Bootloader mode now. How? Navigate to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory and open Command Prompt (Shift + Right-click > Open Command Prompt).
Step 6 – Type in the following command and press Enter.
adb reboot bootloader
Step 7 – HTC Desire C will switch off and then boot into the fastboot mode. Once the drivers are installed, proceed below.
Step 8 – Then type the following command and press Enter.
fastboot flash recovery recovery-beta2.img
Step 9 – Once completed, choose RECOVERY from the Fastboot menu and enter Recovery Mode. Navigate up and down using the volume keys.
Step 10 – If you see Clockwork Recovery, then everything so far has been successfully performed and custom recovery is installed.
Step 11 – Then scroll down to “flash zip from SD card” and press the power button to select it.
NOTE: To get power button to work as ‘select’ move up or down using the volume buttons until the notice “back menu button enabled” comes up.
Step 12 – Press the power button again and select “choose zip from sdcard”.
Step 13 –Now using your volume keys, navigate to the CWM-SuperSU-v0.94.zip file that you copied to your SD card and select it using the power button. Confirm the installation on the next screen and the installation procedure should start now.
Step 14 – After the installation completes, go to “+++++Go Back” and reboot the phone by selecting “reboot system now” from the recovery menu. The phone will boot now.
That’s it. Your HTC Desire C is now rooted on Android 4.0 with SuperSU and has a custom CWM recovery installed.
