3. Installing and Setting Up Fastboot
ADB is now installed and can be used anytime you want to install tweaks or perform ADB commands. We can proceed on setting up Fastboot for the Nexus 6P. In this part, we will tell you how to use the downloaded USB drivers to set up Fastboot.
NOTE: Fastboot USB drivers may be different for other Android phones. Bootloader should be unlocked. If you are unsure, Google this up for your phone.
Step 36 – Disconnect your Android phone from the USB cable and turn it OFF.
Step 37 – Go to Bootloader / Fastboot mode now. How? Press and hold these buttons together: Volume Up + Volume Down + Power. Hold them till you see the bootloader interface with Start written on it.
Step 38 – Connect your Android phone to the computer and wait till Windows install all the drivers it could.
Step 39 – Go to Start -> Settings -> Devices -> Connected devices -> Device manager. In the list, you will see your phone.
Step 40 – Right-click on it, and select Update Driver Software…
Step 41 – Select the second option from the following screen: Browse my computer for driver software
Step 42 – Again, select the second option from the next screen as shown below.
Step 43 – Click the “Have Disk” button.
Step 44 – Now browse to the location of your Android SDK and the exact path where Google USB drivers have been downloaded in Step 18 or you can copy/paste the given path below:
Then click on OK.
Step 45 – You will be show a list of Android model drivers. Select Android Bootloader Interface and click Next.
Step 46 – Do you see the following screen now? Congratulations! Bootloader / Fastboot drivers are now successfully installed on your computer!
Step 47 – Now to verify Fastboot mode / Bootloader mode is working fine, go to the platform-tools directory in your Android SDK folder:
Step 48 – Open Command Prompt in this folder. Hold Shift key + right-click anywhere in the folder and select Open command prompt here.
Step 49 – Type the following command in the Command Prompt window and press Enter.
Step 50 – If you see the screen as in the screenshot above, you have successfully set up Fastboot mode on your computer for your Android phone.
