WhatsApp released a new update to its Android app and rolled out a couple of new features i.e profile photos, pop-up notifications etc. Many popular text messaging apps already have pop-up notifications for new text messages you receive on your phone. It was about time WhatsApp added this feature as well.
Pop-up notifications on WhatsApp are disabled by default, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enable them. It’s very easy, how to enable popup notifications. Follow the simple steps below after the jump.
UPDATE: Since Android has not evolved with much better notifications and direct replies from within notifications, popup notifications in WhatsApp are no longer available. This feature is disabled in latest Android versions like Android 8.0 Oreo, Android 9.0 Pie and Android 10.
How to Enable Popup Notifications in WhatsApp
Here is how you can enable pop-up notifications in WhatsApp:
- Open WhatsApp on your Android phone.
- Go to Settings.
- Then tap Notifications.
- Now select “Always show popup” or ‘Only when screen ‘on'”.
That’s it! You will now always see a pop-up notification whenever you get a new message on WhatsApp.
I’m not sure how old this feature is on WhatsApp, but I just noticed that you can always change the LED notification light as well on supported phones. For instance, on my Galaxy Nexus which has a notification LED light, I select a green LED light to blink whenever I get a new message on WhatsApp. This way, I don’t have to unlock my phone screen just to see if there is a new notification of my email, call or a WhatsApp message.
But it sure looks pretty cool! Update WhatsApp to the latest version, if you haven’t already!
