Update Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 to Android 4.0 ICS 17

Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 was one of my favourite budget Android phones. It had pretty low-end features like a 600 MHz processor, 280 MB RAM and a small display screen and had natively Android 2.3 on it and is still being sold at an affordable price in various countries. Well, now we can even get Android 4.0 ICS on Samsung Galaxy Mini.

We have already covered Android 4.0 tutorials for Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Gio and Galaxy Fit. Samsung has no plans to release an official ICS update to Galaxy Mini and have kind of dropped support for the phone as well with no more updates. This is where CM9 comes in and saves the day with a custom CM9 ICS ROM for Galaxy Mini.

Make sure you have installed all your USB drivers of the Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 to connect it with the computer. Now, let’s proceed with the tutorial on the next page to get that tasty Ice Cream Sandwich (CM9) on your phone.

Update Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 to Android 4.0 ICS

We have put together a detailed step-by-step instructions guide on how to install CyanogenMod 9 on Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570. Please read every line carefully.

To Remember:

  • This tutorial is only for installing CM9 on Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570. Please do not try on any other Galaxy Mini variants.
  • Your phone SHOULD be rooted.
  • This tutorial will wipe out all your data. Proceed at your own risk.
  • Perform a Dalvik Cache wipe before proceeding from the recovery mode.
  • Samsung KIES will NOT detect your phone after installing CM9 because it is a custom ROM.
  • ClockworkMod recovery should be installed from before.
  • Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.

Complete Step-By-Step Instructions:

Step 1 – Download 4.0 ICS CM9 (GalaxyICS Beta 4) for Galaxy Mini to your computer.

Step 2 – Connect and mount your Galaxy Mini USB memory on your computer using the USB cable.

Step 3 – Now copy/paste the two downloaded zip files to your SD card. Make sure the file is in the SD card root.

Step 4 – Then turn off your phone and disconnect from the USB cable.

Step 5 – Now to get in the recovery mode. Switch on the phone while pressing and holding the Menu + Power buttons.

Step 6 – Assuming you have ClockworkMod recovery, scroll down to “flash zip from SD card” and press the power button to select it.

Step 7 – Press the power button again and select “choose zip from sdcard”.

Step 8 –Now using your volume keys, navigate to the CM9 zip file that you copied to your SD card and select it using the power button. Confirm the installation on the next screen and the installation procedure should start now.

Step 9 – After the installation completes, go to “+++++Go Back” and reboot the phone by selecting “reboot system now” from the recovery menu. The phone will boot now and it might take about 5 minutes to boot on your first time. So, please wait.

That’s it! Your Galaxy Mini should now have the latest build of CyanodenMod 9 (CM9) installed on your phone! Go to Settings >About phone to verify.
