Make sure you have installed all your USB drivers for the Samsung Galaxy Xtreme to connect it with the computer. Download Samsung Galaxy Xtreme USB drivers! Apart from just the USB drivers, there are a few more things that you need to take care of.

    Please help with 2.3.6 XXLJ2 on Galaxy Xtreme S5690, I am getting an error right at the end of updating. Complete (Write) operation Failed.
    All threads compleated. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

    The phone does not reboot, but if I turn it off it does boot up and show the new update… is this ok?
