I updated to 4.0.4 earlier today, through Sony PC Companion. Then I followed this guide, ran the file until I encountered a problem. When I thought everything had gone as planned and the batch file told me I was “finished”, it turns out nothing had changed. That is, no root at least. Can’t find Superuser, and Root Checker tells me this device does not have proper root access.

      same here

It worked! But, I had to install PDANet for driver support. (It is
confusing how Sony takes care of its customers… What a pity…) Only
after full installation of drivers (my case – PDANet) and assuring there
is no unknown devices in Device manager one might consider to proceed.

By the way! What is that application running in background even when patching is done – adb.exe?

may want to give some explanations what is all about! I suppose the exe
is related to the very process of patching, but why didn’t it close
    while it was complete?

Anyway, it was very helpful to activate droidwall – thank You very much (both!).
